"According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, ...that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust." Spend a little time meditating on that! How many men are obsessed with becoming God-like? What amount of their soul do people surrender to gain a false "divine power" to achieve a "divine nature" based on their own (corrupt) imagination of what those things entail? I believe that may be Satan's most powerful weapon - the desire to be God-like. And it is GIVEN to us - how? "Through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord", "through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue". It is in knowing Jesus that we receive the nature of God, and the things that pertain to life and godliness. And if we are diligent, it just keeps getting better and better, leading (abundantly) to entrance into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. These chapters are SO rich and packed with information and inspiration! Another thought occurred to me when I started reading 1 Peter; James' "theme" is faith, John's is love, and Peter seems to have a lot of hope in his message(s). And now abideth faith, hope and love. I just thought that kind of related. :-)
