It is amazing to me how the Pharisees could be so blind to the love and miracles they witnessed by the hand of Jesus. Were they so into the law (which was mostly add-ons of their own, and not God's Word) or so intent on being rid of Jesus that they did not recognize the power and Truth and the very presence of God? Yet there are many miracles I miss every day because my attention is focused somewhere other than on Jesus. It is too easy to be distracted from the goodness and wonder of God. I also wonder if He healed any of the many others who were waiting for the waters to be troubled, or if this man was singled out. What a privilege - and we are also recipients of that individualized healing and forgiveness. I wonder if there was a specific sin Chrst warned him about. When the man told the Jews it was Jesus who healed him, was he looking to better his position or offering praise? It does not record that he was grateful, but he did obey and was at the temple. If he was ungrateful, and was the only one healed, what lesson is there for us in that?
