God speaks through Haggai and tells his people, though they think it is not time to rebuild the temple, He urges them to look around and see how their lives are not as blessed as they could be - because the people are living in their houses while the Lord's house lies waste. He tells them it is time and, even though it will not be as magnificent as Solomon's temple, He will fill it with His Glory, and will bless their efforts. It tells us the very day Zechariah had his vision(s) where God re-affirms His choice of Jerusalem, and calls them the "apple of his eye". I was reading in Psalms this morning and read that phrase there, in CH 19?, I think. What a tender place He holds us! God is so faithful to to re-affirm His love for us, and to remind us to keep working and promise His blessing and Glory in our lives as we follow Him.
