The Israelites make numerous mention of the things “given” to them or promised by Moses, but I don’t see any particular mention in these chapters of the blessing of Jacob to his sons before he died. Perhaps Moses based his discussions and promises to the various tribes on the blessing? It is interesting to see how accurately Jacob’s blessing came to pass (found in Genesis 49). Reuben is not given a blessing, and Simeon and Levi are to be “divided in Jacob” and “scattered in Israel”. Simeon ends up taking land inside the borders given to Judah, because that land was too great for that tribe. Judah is to be the one that is praised, the leader and the inheritor of the biggest portion of land. Zebulun’s border goes up to the sea – “Zebulun shall dwell at the haven of the sea; and he shall be for an haven of ships” (Joshua 19:11). You don’t even need a map to see how the blessing is fulfilled as the land is divided/awarded by lot. What an amazing God we serve and how wonderful that He gives us His Word with such an abundance of demonstrations of His sovereignty to bolster our faith!
